Definite Article: (al)    continued
In Arabic prefix (al) to a common noun makes it a definite noun.  By making a definite noun, it qualifies it to become a nominal subject;  generally a common noun by itself cannot be the subject of a nominal sentence.
In a nominal sentence where there is a subject (doer) and predicate (that tells who is the doer).   The subject must be in agreement to its predicate.  For example in 1st statement subject (son) is masculine then it predicate  (beautiful) must be masculine and  In 2nd statement the subject (daughter) is feminine then predict (beautiful) must be feminine.

Practice Exercise:
Translate each remaining statements; indicate if the subject and predicate are masculine or feminine

The son (is) beautiful

The daughter (is) beautiful
