Adhan means to call for prayer  Generally when the time for salaah (obligatory prescribed prayer) comes in , a man (mu-adh-dhin),  in a Mosque (masjid) call out adhan to announce (invite for prayer)  The Adhan is a sunnah act for the five time daily obligatory (congrigaton) prayers.  One of the correct method is to stand up facing Qiblah inserting both index fingers into both ears and  call out aloud these prescribed words in Arabic.  The calling Adhan in any other language is not permissible and must be call out by a male adult.

Allāhu 'Akbaru Allāhu 'Akbaru  - Repeat once more

'Ash/hadu 'AnLā 'Ilāha 'Illā Allāhu  - Repeat once more

Ash/hadu 'Anna MuĥammadāanRasūlu Allāhi  Repeat once more

Ĥayya `AlaáAlŞalāah  Repeat once more

Ĥayya `AlaáAlFalāĥ  Repeat once more

Hay-ya ‘alal-falaah ( repeat one more only for Fajr (Dawn) prayer

Allāhu 'Akbaru Allāhu 'Akbaru  Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Allāhu  

 

Allah is the Greatest (4 times)
I bear witness that there is no god except Allah (2 times)
I declare that Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger (2 times)
Come for salaah (2 times, turning the head to the right both times)
Come to success (2 times, turning the head to the left both times)
Allah is the Greatest (2 times)
There is no god except Allah
Hay-ya ‘alal-falaah, say 2 times:
As­-salaatu khairum-minan-naum – Prayer is better than sleep.
