If letter Alif

immediately after a consonant with a Fathah (zaber) then the short vowels is
slightly lengthen Exception rules -

(with sukun, (jazm) sign) comes
immediately after a consonant with a Damma (Pesh) then the short vowels is
slightly lengthen Let's see slight difference between two
sounds.

If letter Ya

immediately after a consonant with a Kasra (zer) then the short vowels
is slightly lengthen Let's see slight difference between two
sounds.
